- ABOUT ME -
Hey! I’m James, the one man team behind Erb Video Productions. I'm a wedding filmmaker, and I currently live in Buffalo, NY, but I've also spent parts of my life in Rochester, NY and New Haven, CT.
I never thought I’d end up calling myself a wedding filmmaker, especially since I was never very artistic or creative, but looking back, it kind of makes sense. Growing up, some of my favorite songs were soundtracks from my favorite movies, & I was always recording my friends & I doing whatever we were up to, using whatever cell phone I had at the time. I started shooting videos with an actual camera later on in my life, & once I discovered wedding filmmaking a few years ago, I was hooked. I love all the challenges of shooting a wedding day, getting to know all the amazing people & couples that come with it, and seeing all of it come together in one awesome video that couples gets to watch for the rest of their lives.
The way I create these videos is a big reason why I like to refer to myself as a "filmmaker" as opposed to simply a videographer. I love being actively involved in planning & shooting, and developing a story out of all the content I capture. Editing & storytelling are huge parts of why I love doing what I do.
When I’m not shooting or editing videos, you’ll either find me hiking, traveling to ultimate frisbee tournaments, spending time with my family, or watching tons of football in the fall (Go Bills!). Pizza is my favorite food & I would probably eat it every day of my life if I could. I’m also a bit of a nerd and love anything that has to do with physics, space, or engineering. Naturally, Interstellar is one of my favorite films of all time.
Speaking of favorites, my favorite person of all time is my wife. We’ve been married for less than a year, and we love every day of figuring out life together. Getting married to Sara gave me an even greater perspective of all the emotions & special moments experienced on a wedding day. It was a whirlwind to me, but by far the greatest day of my life. Experiencing that day made me even more excited that I get to capture those incredible moments for other couples.
As much as my wedding day was a complete whirlwind, so was figuring out this journey of creating wedding films for so many people. I officially launched my business at the start of 2018, and I can’t believe how far it has come since. Life is an interesting journey with unexpected twists and turns, and I’m very excited to see where this part of my life will take me.
If you’ve read this far, I really appreciate you taking the time to read a bit more about me. Now, it’s your turn - I hope to hear from you soon! I'd love to tell your story.
So, what's it like working with James? How does this all work? Here's a quick list of what you can expect & how to move forward if you are interested:
STEP 1: Contact
Let's get in touch! Fill out my contact form. Tell me a little bit about you and your wedding plans. I can send you more information on my packages, answer any questions you have, and eventually we'll chat before we finalize anything.
STEP 2: Pre-Wedding Planning
After you're booked & we're a lot closer to your wedding, I will reach out to establish a timeline & shooting hours, etc. I also have a small questionnaire for my couples to fill out too, which goes a long way in making sure we're all on the same page.
STEP 3: Wedding Day
Everything will go by in a flash on your wedding day, but rest assured I will be there to capture it all: your vows, love notes written to your souse, special moments between you & your loved ones, funny stories shared by friends & family, & every other little detail.
Most of the day will consist of me capturing genuine moments as they unfold. There will be times throughout the day though, where I may offer some direction in order to capture the best lighting, cleanest audio, etc. When it's just you & your partner, I also like to use a few prompts that may help bring out natural interactions between the two of you & help you feel more relaxed in front of the camera. Otherwise, I am all about capturing real, genuine moments as they unfold.
STEP 4: Delivery
After shooting your wedding, I'll spend 20-30+ hours editing & crafting all of my footage into a film that uniquely re-tells the story of your relationship & wedding day. Once that's finished, it's on its way to you to watch for the first time.
Of all the things I love about wedding filmmaking, one of my favorite parts has to be hearing couples reactions after they watch their wedding film for the first time.
If you want an idea of what it's like to experience your own wedding film, feel free to read these kind words left by couples after they watched their film for the very first time:
"I highly recommend James! From start to finish he was fantastic to work with, and his video turned out more amazing than we could ever imagine. He captured every part of our day perfectly, and I feel like I re-live the day every time I watch the video. Trusting James with such a momentous day was one of the best decisions we made. Thank you so much!"
